JAMAICA BROILERS GROUP OF COMPANIES SCHOLARSHIP Print

 

Mr. Robert Levy, Chief Executive Officer of the Jamaica Broilers Group (JBG), was the guest speaker at the 2007 graduation exercise of the Caribbean Graduate School of Theology.  Mr. Levy noted the paucity of male graduates and offered two full tuition scholarships for men to pursue leadership training at the institution. 

 

The JBG Limited is a business enterprise based on Christian values and seeks to collaborate with a leading tertiary level leadership training institution in the Caribbean that is committed to the positive transformation of society. 

 

Considerations

 

The selection of four (4) persons to receive one half tuition scholarships for a period of two or three years based on the programme which the individual desires to pursue. 

 

The scholarships are intended for persons in the Master of Divinity, Master of Business Administration and Counselling Psychology programmes. 

 

The agreement is to designate the scholarships in the following manner: two (2) for Master of Divinity; one (1) for Counselling Psychology; and one (1) for Master of Business Administration programmes. 

 

The scholarships are intended to help address the serious imbalance of male students in the programme.

 

The scholarship will be effective for the 2008 -2009 academic year and students enrolled in the programme before July 2008 will not qualify to be a scholarship recipient.

 

Applicants need to meet the following criteria

 

  1. Posses a baccalaureate degree from a recognized tertiary level institution.
  2. Earned a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of B (3.0) and above undergraduate programme
  3. Should the person qualify for mature entry, then the applicant should possess at least a three year diploma with a B (3.0) cumulative grade point average.
  4. Be in good standing with their local church, denomination and the wider Christian community.
  5. Demonstrate a track record of service to the community.
  6. Possess strong interpersonal skills and the biblical criteria to serve as a ministry or organization leader.
  7. Must be committed to completing the programme in two or three years based upon the duration of the respective programme.
  8. A ministry or organization with which the applicant is affiliated be committed to contributing ten percent (10%) of the tuition.  This should be paid in two installments per year at the start of each semester.
  9. Students are required to pay for the other forty percent (40%) of the tuition at least one semester in advance.
  10. In the event that a student fails a course, the payment for repeating the course will be borne solely by the student.  The scholarship underwrites success not failure.
  11. Write an essay addressing the issue of the role of the Christian in positively transforming society.  Discuss how you propose to impact society, organizations, and local churches after completing the course of study.
  12. Two progress reports will be submitted to the Human Resource Department of JBG.  The reports will be completed in two parts, namely, the student and the CGST academic office.  The reports will be go through the academic office and endorsed by the Academic Dean.
  13. The applicants shall be residents of Jamaica.
  14. Recipients of the scholarship should be willing to serve a bond equivalent to the duration of the scholarship after completing the programme.  The bond must be served in Jamaica with a private or public sector entity.
